What is TG?
TG is a nonprofit corporation that promotes educational access and success so that students can realize their college and career dreams. TG offers resources to help students and families plan and prepare for college, learn the basics of money management, and repay their federal student loans. In addition, TG is a student loan guarantor that administers Federal Family Education Loan Program (FFELP) loans made before July 1, 2010, on behalf of the U.S. Department of Education.
What are TG's values?
In considering the role of any organization that offers resources, it is important to understand what the organization values. At TG, values drive our vision, and they play an important part in our relationships with those we serve. TG values:
- Education and its role in improving lives and society as a whole;
- The need to simplify and expand access to higher education;
- Student success, particularly academic and financial success;
- Collaborations, and the opportunities they provide to achieve common goals;
- Innovation as a necessity for building a future of success;
- Relationships with our customers and everyone else we serve; and
- Our people, a talented team of individuals with the knowledge, skills, abilities, and — perhaps most importantly — the passion to achieve our vision.
How is TG funded and how does TG offer resources for free?
Most of TG's revenue is derived from fees it earns from the Department of Education to administer guaranteed student loans and collect on defaulted student loans. As a result of revenue it receives for these life-of-the-loan services, TG is both fortunate and gratified to be able to share a portion of its success by funding multiple scholarship and grant programs. It also manages several college access and student success initiatives that provide resources and services to students and schools at no cost.
What sorts of resources does TG offer?
TG has created the awareness program Adventures In Education (AIE™, this site) that helps students plan and complete their journey through higher education. By providing a website and other free resources to students, parents, counselors, and educators, AIE encourages individuals to discover and pursue educational opportunities. AIE promotes a better tomorrow by preparing students and families for the adventure today.
TG also provides free publications available for order online on such topics as college awareness, financial literacy, and default aversion, many in English and Spanish.
TG administers, in collaboration with the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board, the Texas Financial Aid Information Center (TFAIC). This is a toll-free public service call center available to all Texas students and families wanting to pursue a higher education. TFAIC can be reached at 1-888-311-8881. Students can also contact TFAIC via email at TXFinAidInfo@tgslc.org.
Finally, TG conducts outreach and awareness activities through the TG Ambassador Program. TG team members, or "Ambassadors," attend financial aid fairs, college nights, and college preparation workshops at high schools, colleges, community centers, and faith-based venues. Ambassadors speak to parents and students about the benefits of a postsecondary education, direct them to resources, explain the financial aid and admissions processes, and present TG's message that higher education is both accessible and achievable.
Does TG promote student loans?
No — in fact, TG does not make loans. Under the Federal Family Education Loan Program (FFELP), we are a student loan guarantor. However, no new FFELP loans have been originated since June 30, 2010; since then, all new student loans have been made under the Federal Direct Loan Program (FDLP), administered by the Department of Education.
TG does promote educational access and success so that students can realize their college and career dreams. We offer resources to help students and families plan and prepare for college, learn the basics of money management, and repay their federal student loans.
Are TG's and AIE's resources only available in Texas?
No. While priority is given for Texas schools, TG does make some resources available in other states. Contact a TG account executive for more details.
