Your guide to the TASFA

Last week's edition of AIEmail directed you to helpful resources for filling out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). In most situations, that's the critical step for getting the financial aid process underway.

However, if you're an undocumented student who qualifies as a Texas resident (under House Bill 1403/Senate Bill 1528), you'll get your financial aid process underway by filling out the Texas Application for State Financial Aid (TASFA). The TASFA allows students to pay in-state tuition rates at many Texas colleges, as well as to receive state financial aid.

You may be asking yourself, hey, does AIE offer a thorough and user-friendly video for the TASFA? And is it available in English and in Spanish? The answers are yes and yes! Your Guide to the TASFA discusses the criteria for and application process that undocumented students may use to apply for Texas state financial aid, and is in fact available in English and Spanish.

The video is a great way to find out about:

  • The information students and parents must include on the forms
  • The procedure for submitting the applications
  • The supporting documentation that students and parents may need to submit to the college
  • Common questions students and families have while filling out the form

If you have more questions, you can get more information by calling the Texas Financial Aid Information Center at (888) 311-8881.
