Charley Wootan Grants for 2012-13 have been Awarded

Application processing for the Charley Wootan Grant Program has ended for the 2012-13 academic year. Notification letters have been mailed to more than 1,500 grant recipients, and TG is waiting for acceptance responses from awardees.

For the coming academic year, TG awarded $5 million in Wootan grants, $4 million of which will be apportioned to recipients within Texas and $1 million to recipients in other states. The Charley Wootan Grant Program is designed to help low-income students pay for a higher education. Awards are made based on financial need, and eligible students receive awards on a first-come, first-served basis. Because funds are limited, TG opens only as many applications as it needs to fully award to students in Texas and to those outside the state. TG received about 22,000 Wootan grant applications for the 2012-13 academic year.

The Charley Wootan Grant Program is one component of TG's philanthropic services created to help students realize their college dreams. For more than a decade, TG has offered Wootan grants, at first in the form of block grants to schools that chose recipients, and now, since 2008, to students who apply and are awarded based on need.
